I recently had MRT applied to my roof 1 month ago nothing has changed, actually it looks worse - has it failed.
Within the first 2-3 weeks the moss & lichen will have changed to a yellow/brown colour, which signifies that it is dead. The roof does look worse, which is great in this case. We allow a period of 12-18 months for all the moss, mould & lichen to be gone. Generally around 3 and 6 months you notice changes such as moss flaking, dead bits of moss in gutters and moss on the ground.
Why does it take so long?
Moss, Mould & lichen growth spreads and attaches to roof surfaces quite easily, thus allowing it to grow quickly and undisturbed due to being out of reach. The treatment product has to penetrate into moss & lichen that has been growing for a very long time to kill the spores, once this has occurred it will weaken from the surface and begin to break down and wash away. We allow the weather do the work of washing it away, and remember some roofs can have 40+ years of moss growth.
Does the moss fall off in big clumps and block my downpipes?
No, the moss & lichen breaks down like dirt crumbles away like dust. If you were to rub some moss/lichen that has been treated with MRT, it will crumble & feel like dust under your fingers, and as the process is gradual the moss in the downpipes/gutters just flows away with normal rainfall.
It is suitable for solar panels?
The product is suitable for a wide range of roof surfaces including solar panels, awnings, walls, render, bricks and the list goes on. Solar Panels generally get moss & lichen growth on the silver metal frame first and then it jumps onto the solar face of panels.
My roof is very steep and access is tricky, I can’t really afford the cost of scaffold, how can you apply it.
The great thing about this product is that we can apply it from ladders or working platforms. The product is applied with a medium pressure spray unit and can reach a long distance allowing us to safely reach steep & tricky roof surfaces.
My roof has been painted and moss is growing on the surface - will the moss roof treatment disturb the paint?
Moss Roof Treatment is a water-based product so it does not affect paint coatings or sealers. It is actually a great way to clean painted roofs and re-freshen the roof.
I have lots of plants, trees & shrubs around my property is the MRT safe?
Yes, it a safe product. As an added precaution, we like to hose down any plants and other areas where overspray may have occurred. Fish Ponds and Veggie gardens we do like to have covered as an added precaution.
What is the best time to apply the MRT?
All year round Moss Roof Treatment can be applied, as it is best to kill the moss and spores ASAP to prevent more growth. We aim to apply the product on days where low winds are present and little to no rainfall is forecast.
I have several water tanks; how do I avoid getting MRT into them?
We recommend diverting the pipes into the water tanks for at least 3 weeks or until there has been at least 10mm of rainfall to fully flush out the gutters, then it will be fine to reconnect. Water tanks used for drinking water, it is best to have it diverted a bit longer as an added precaution.
How do I get rid of moss on my roof?
Applying a Moss Treatment to roof surfaces it the best way to remove moss, mould and lichen from the roof and prevent new regrowth from occurring. This is the safest way without damaging the roof, which pressure cleaning can cause.
How much does it cost to high pressure clean your house roof?
If you need to have moss removed from your house roof, expect to pay between $1500.00 to $2500.00 for an average three bedroom house depending on accessibility, roof pitch, safety required on roof and type of roof surface. However, pressure cleaning can cause damage to older tiles, remove mortar/pointing and remove colour and powder coatings from roofs sheets. If you do get a pressure clean, it is best to but a moss treatment product on afterwards to prevent new regrowth from occurring.
When should I put moss killer on my roof?
ASAP! The sooner the product kills the moss, the sooner it will break down and wash away. It will also prevent new growth from occurring for several years.
Will dead moss fall off roof?
Some dead moss will come off with the weather, but most will shrivel up, break down and wash away with normal rainfall.
Should you pressure wash a roof?
Certain roofs can be pressure cleaned - Iron roofs & cement tiled if being painted afterwards. Otherwise, it should be avoided to preserve the roof surface. Roof Surfaces such as Slate tiles, laserlight and Terracotta tiles should not be pressure cleaned at all.
How do I get rid of moss on my roof without damaging shingles?
Slate Tiles or Shingles should be cleaned with a Moss Roof Treatment as they cannot being pressure cleaned due to the brittleness of the tile. They can easily break when walking on and when being pressure washed.
How long does it take for moss killer to work?
Kills moss, mould & lichen within 2-3 weeks, and thenw e allow 12-18 months on average for all dead growth to be gone, leaving a clean roof.
Does moss on roof cause damage?
